Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy 2025-26

Ladysmith Junior School recognises our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued.

We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. This may include referring and monitoring cases of suspected abuse.

Child protection form part of the school’s safeguarding responsibilities.

We work on the basis that “It could happen here”.

Safeguarding children from harm is the responsibility of ALL adults working at Ladysmith Junior School, whether on a voluntary or paid basis.

If you have any concerns, you MUST speak to a member of the safeguarding team above.

We are also an Operation Encompass School.

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information safeguarding partnership enabling educational settings to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass ensures that there is a simple telephone call or electronic notification to a school’s trained Designated Safeguarding Lead /Officer (known as Key Adult) prior to the start of the next school day after an incident of police attended domestic abuse where there are children related to either of the adult parties involved.

Information is shared with a school’s Key Adult (Designated Safeguarding Lead or Officer) prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident. This sharing of information enables appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.
