Year 4 Multiplication Test Check (MTC)

Multiplication tables are vital foundational knowledge. Having rapid recall of them supports children to confidently access the wider maths curriculum. The school has a structured approach to the teaching of multiplication tables with each table explicitly taught and then regularly practised using a combination of paper booklets and Times Tables Rock Stars. To support children to practise their times tables we encourage children to play 21 minutes of Times Tables Rockstars per week at home. This equates to 3 minutes per day, with this little and often approach shown to be the most effective way for children to learn and retain their multiplication tables.

In Year 4 children sit a statutory multiplication tables test in the summer term. This consists of 25 random multiplication facts with 6 seconds to answer each one.

This year we are delighted to report that 82% of children in Year 4 achieved a 'good' score of 23 or above, with an average score across all children of 23.4. This is significantly above the national average of 21.0.
