Mobile Phones

Use of Mobile Phones by Pupils

Pupils are only allowed to bring a mobile to school if they are in Year 5 or 6 and are:

• Travelling to school by themselves (i.e without an adult)

• Young carers who need to be contactable

This is done at the child’s own risk, and the school holds no liability for damage or loss.

On arrival at school and before entering the school site, pupils will be expected to follow the principles outlined below. Pupils must adhere to the school’s policy for Online Safety and acceptable use agreement.

The following principles are clearly communicated to children periodically in online safety lessons and whole school approaches.

1. Only pupils in Years 5 and 6 are allowed to bring their phones to school if they walk to school and a permission form has been received from their parents.

2. Mobile phones must be named.

3. Mobile phones must be switched off on arrival at school

4. Mobile phones must be placed into the mobile phone box in the classroom upon arrival at school. They will then be stored securely in the school office until home time. Whilst they are stored securely, the school still does not hold liability for loss or damage.

Further guidance to keep children safe

1. Avoid sharing your contact details with people you don’t know, and don’t share other people’s contact details without their consent.

2. Don’t share your phone’s passwords or access codes with anyone else.

3. Don’t use your mobile phone to bully, intimidate or harass anyone. This includes bullying, harassing or intimidating pupils or staff via: a. Email b. Text/messaging app c. Social media

4. Don’t use your phone to send or receive anything that may be criminal.

5. Rules on bullying, harassment, and intimidation apply to how you use your mobile phone even when you aren’t in school.

6. Don’t use vulgar, obscene or derogatory language while on the phone or when using social media.

This language is not permitted under the school’s behaviour policy. You must comply with a request by a member of staff to switch off and hand in your phone upon arrival at school. Refusal to comply is a breach of the school’s behaviour policy and will be dealt with accordingly.

If it is reported that a child has not handed in their phone, staff will be permitted to search and confiscate in line with Appendix 3 of our behaviour policy as this constitutes a prohibited item.
